When listen to IT experts we might get the impression that user errors are by far the biggest cause for cyber incidents. A look at the daily reports in the media about cyber incidents and so-called “risk vendors” could lead us to believe that the technology providers are the biggest risk. The available data on cyber incidents support neither of these assumptions.
The configuration and management of technology over the lifecycle is where things go wrong, and not just every now and then. A shocking 82% off all cyber incidents are caused by flawed management and configuration of technology. Add to that the 9% caused by user errors, and we have 91% of the cyber incidents caused by what we do with technology and not the technology itself!
