When your organization does not see Cyber Security as a priority and business enabler, it will soon have to deal with a cyber breach. It is that simple…
We are stilling seeing Cybersecurity being treated as a cost, a very expensive necessity. And even the necessity is more often challenged than accepted. Conversations about the costs of a significant cyber incident are still too often closed by labeling these as “project fear” when organization have not yet been confronted with these incidents, or the incidents that occurred did not cause the full potential damages. As a result of this line of thinking, the necessary budgets and resources are not made available, and every day without significant cyber incident is seen as another confirmation that it isn’t all that bad.
But do we leave the front door of our business wide open because there have been no thefts? Do we switch of the smoke detectors because there have been no fire? Hopefully not! These measures are essential and contribute to the prevention. In fact, the prevention contributes significantly to not having to experience incidents, right? The same applies of course to cybersecurity. Prevention of cyber incidents through cybersecurity is all about protecting the business, the assets, the entire value creation chain.
